    The Match-up

In what may be the final season for Peyton Manning, it has started about as well as he could have hoped. The Broncos are off to a 3-0 start and are firing on all cylinders behind the football genius that is Manning. The Vikings are getting rolling as well on the back of star running back Adrian Peterson, who turned in a 126 yard and 2 touchdown performance in week 3 against the San Diego Chargers. Peterson isn't the only star on the Vikings, they also have a great budding quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater, one of the most accurate passers in the NFL today. That being said, I don't think Teddy will be able to keep up with Peyton, and the Broncos will improve to 4-0.

    The Prediction
    Minnesota Vikings - 18
    Denver Broncos - 28

    Cute Guy Watch

Peyton Manning is one of the few football players I can actually remember, probably due to his roles in all recent insurance commercials. He isn't my first choice for the cutest guy, but I do love that his facial expressions never hide the way he truly feels. I apologize to those who are continually disappointed with the lack of cute NFL players posted in this segment, but you can't deny I at least make you laugh.

Vikings will go head to head with the broncos this week. Google image searching a viking alone might have put the fear in me to pick them to win right off the bat (or goal post if you will). The horns on their helmet look intimidating, but unless they're fighting rear first, I don't think it'll really give them a battle advantage. On the other hand, the bronco has a temper and bucking force (not a typo - when the horses kick their legs out!) that could put the viking out of the game. If you want a better image, picture those horses (sometimes broncos) with the cowboys riding them at rodeos. In further thinking about the pure strength of the bronco over the viking, I'm making my pick for those little horses to win this week. Yee-haw.

    Tailgate and Cheer in Style

The chill in the air was very apparent this week so don't forget to find your new favorite tailgating accessories. Here is what we recommend to cheer on the Minnesota Vikings:

Tag #BundleUpBGS on social media! We want to see how you are supporting your teams this weekend!

    The Match-up

The Maryland Terrapins have had a roller coaster of a season to this point. After a blowout victory over the Spiders of Richmond, they followed with a lopsided loss to the Bowling Green Falcons, and last week beat South Florida by a couple of scores. On the other side of the ball, the West Virginia Mountaineers have started the season against a couple of cupcake teams (yum, cupcakes!) in Georgia Southern and Liberty. This will be a true test to see if the Mountaineers are an actual force to be reckoned with and if the Terrapins can right the ship and get on a winning streak before conference play starts.

    The Prediction
    University of Maryland - 17
    West Virginia University - 37

     -Alec

    Cute Guy Watch

Do you ever really look at those player photos on TV at the beginning of the football games? The typical image I see in my head is scowling, mean, and the personality that they have always hated their picture being taken. Looking through the University of Maryland's lineup was very different than what you see on TV. I browsed through several people before ultimately picking Wes Brown, running back for Maryland, for our Cute Guy Watch. Doesn't his smile just make you so happy!? Wes, thanks for making our day. Big smiles right back at ya!

    Mascot Match-up

I wasn't positive about what exactly a terrapin is, so I googled to confirm it is indeed a type of turtle. What's the difference between a turtle, terrapin, and tortoise you ask? Their differences actually lie in where they live, and not what they look like! If you're interested in learning more, click here to read all about their differences.

This week we'll look at a terrapin going up against a mountaineer. The WVU mountaineer mascot carries a musket (shoutout to my good friends Hillary and Karen) and wears a pretty sweet raccoon hat. I've seen fringed boots and jackets come back into style so he's also got that going for him. On the other hand, the terrapin has a hard shell to help protect itself from the mountaineer. Unfortunately the terrapin has slow speed as a disadvantage, so I'm forced to give this one to the mountaineers.

    Tailgate and Cheer in Style

The first day of Fall was earlier this week and we are beyond excited for that cool breeze to start rolling in! Big Game Series - New York Jets @ Indianapolis Colts September 18, 2015 09:00

New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium

Monday, September 21st at 8:30pm EST on ESPN

Tag #BundleUpBGS on social media! We want to see how you are supporting your teams this weekend!

    The Match-up

The New York Jets lost their starting quarterback in the preseason to a punch in the face, and have to rely on Ryan Fitzpatrick for the first few weeks to open the season. The Harvard graduate proved that he deserves to be a starting quarterback in the League with an outstanding performance in week 1, giving the Jets a victory and a great start to the season. The Colts on the other hand, did not start out their push for a 2016 Super Bowl the way they had hoped. Andrew Luck did not come out with the precision the Colts brass was looking for and ended up throwing 2 interceptions en route to a week 1 loss. If the Jets can continue to tread water and win a few more games, they could be in a good position for when Geno Smith comes back from a broken jaw. Andrew Luck and the Colts need to get back on track this week, or face an uphill climb in the division to make the playoffs.

    The Prediction
    New York Jets - 15
    Indianapolis Colts - 24

     -Alec

    Cute Guy Watch

Born in Sweden. Native Canadian. Played at Yale. Former gymnast. What else do I even need to say? Tyler Varga now plays for the Indianapolis Colts at the age of 21. His young age aside, I'm drooling over our cute guy this week. You're welcome ladies.

    Mascot Match-up

This week we're matching up a jet and a horse. Obviously the speed of a jet is no match for a horse. On the other hand looking at the defensive side, a horse could maneuver and zigzag around the field much easier than a jet could. I don't have a strong feeling toward green or royal blue, and have fond memories of both cities. It's a close call, but I'm ultimately settling for Indy to win this one. Alec and I had a great time at the Vintage Indiana Wine Festival in Indy a couple of years ago that's pulling my heart strings toward the Colts for the win.

    Tailgate and Cheer in Style

    Frequently Asked Questions September 14, 2015 09:00

Almost halfway through September already! Time really does seem to fly by faster every month, especially when we get closer to the holiday season. With the busy shopping months just ahead of us, we are hoping to help answer some common questions we see from our customers:

What is crochet? Isn’t that the same as knitting?

"Crochet" and "knit" are often used interchangeably to describe handmade items; however, the process to create these items is actually VERY different! Although both hobbies work with yarn, you can see on the left side of the picture below that one single hook is used to crochet an item, while the right side of the picture shows two pointed needles that are used to knit an item. While both processes utilize loops of yarn, knitting requires many active loops on the needles while crocheting normally only has one active loop (or possibly a few loops depending on the stitch).

Is the wooden tag on your scarves and hats removable?

Our intention with the wooden tags was for them to remain on the items. We added them this year as a branding tool and a way for customers to remember who they bought the item from. The tag is sewn into the item and we would highly suggest not cutting it off in fear of cutting the yarn that holds the item together. You can always put the item on with the tag side down or in the back if you do not want it displayed.

Why shouldn’t I put my item through the washing machine?

The quality of the wooden button and tag will deteriorate if your item is put through the washing machine. We instead recommend hand washing your items and lying them flat to dry. Flowers pinned to any earwarmer or hat should also be removed before hand washing.

What is the process if I want to place a custom order?

Please visit our Custom/Group Order page to begin the custom order process. Let us know the type of item you’re looking for, color(s), size(s), date that you need the item, and any other special notes that would help us better understand your order.

Are there any other items I can custom order outside of a scarf and earwarmer?

Absolutely! In addition to completing requests for different colors and styles of scarves and earwarmers, we have also crocheted several different winter hats, baby blankets, baby hats, and baby booties. We are always open to discussing new items, even if we haven't previously made them! Visit our Custom/Group Order page to tell us more about what you’re looking for.

Are your items sold in stores?

Our items are currently only sold online and through Beverly’s Gift and Craft Shoppe. We are hoping to sell in stores in the future.

Do you sell at any craft shows?

Yes! We will post on social media and the blog to let you know when and where we are participating in craft shows. We currently only participate in events local to the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. We have several already confirmed for this Fall and can't wait to announce those at a later date!

Big Game Series - U. of Alabama vs. U. of Wisconsin September 04, 2015 09:00

First Official Week of College Football!!

University of Alabama vs. University of Wisconsin @ AT&T Stadium

Saturday, September 5th at 8pm EST on ABC

Tag #BundleUpBGS on social media! We want to see how you are supporting your teams this weekend!

    The Match-up

The first truly big game of the season pits two ranked opponents, #20 Wisconsin and #3 Alabama, against each other in the Advocare Classic on ABC in Arlington, TX. Since Nick Saban took over as head coach of the Crimson Tide, Alabama has never lost a season opener. Both squads will be replacing big time running backs in second round pick T.J. Yeldon of Alabama and first round selection Melvin Gordon of Wisconsin. This game will be a battle between two schools who constantly have a flurry of running backs coming through and then heading to the NFL. At the end of the day though, this Alabama squad will be too much to handle and should "run away" with the game.

    The Prediction
    University of Alabama: 35
    University of Wisconsin: 21

     -Alec

    Cute Guy Watch

It's an understatement that I quickly become sidetracked when searching online. I was looking for pictures of Jacob Coker, Senior QB for Alabama, and in my search for pictures of him, Russell Wilson caught my eye...

I couldn't resist. And you're welcome. He played for Wisconsin in grad school, so this is relevant!

    Mascot Match-up

I ended up doing quite a bit of Googling about the Crimson Tide. What does that even mean? Is that an animal or a color? What is this mascot!? The most important thing you need to know is that his name is Big Al and he's an elephant. Now that we have that all clear, let's discuss this elephant going up against a badger (whose name is Buckingham U. "Bucky" Badger). I'm initially less than impressed with Big Al's t-shirt and am already leaning toward Bucky who sports what looks to be a striped turtleneck. Neither mascot wears pants so that helps even the playing field. I'm sure the Roll Tide cheering will be loud, but it's no match for those Bucky stripes. My thought with this game is that Bucky's red and white striped turtleneck is going to distract the Crimson Tide and help lead Wisconsin to a victory.

    Tailgate and Cheer in Style

We'll see a lot of red in the crowd for both of these teams! Here is what we recommend for the Wisconsin Badgers:

And this is what we suggest for the Alabama Crimson Tide:

Customize Our Flower Earwarmers!! August 31, 2015 09:00

The ability to personalize and customize your outfit to fit an occasion or mood is every girl’s dream. Our Flower Earwarmer provides the opportunity for you to do just that.

Did you know that the flower attachment is a removable pin? You can take it off and switch it out with another flower color, a bow or heart pin (coming soon!), or even another pin you might have at home.

Did you also know that you can customize the center of the flower and choose from a button, gem, or a simple plain style? The earwamer itself can even be worn plain without any attachment for a classic and versatile look. Here are a few ideas we suggest for occasions and color combinations.

    Local to Cincinnati

A black earwarmer can be worn with an orange flower to cheer on the Bengals, switched with a red flower to show your University of Cincinnati Bearcat pride, and then worn plain without a flower to match your fall jacket.

    Girls Night Out

A Fall Girls Night Out is a must in the next couple of months! Plan an outdoor event and show your individual styles with your favorite earwarmer and flower combination.

    Compliment Your Personality

Feeling sporty? Flirty? Do you just need a pop of color for the dreary winter? These combos can help!

    Custom Combinations

Don't see a combination or color you were looking for? Do you want to order several earwarmers for family and friends? We would love to make that happen for you! Submit your request on the Custom/Group Order page and we'll get back to you shortly.

What are your favorite color combinations? Do you prefer the sparkle of the gem or the pop of color with the button flower center? Answer in the comments below!

    Get to Know Us!
So by now you know that Bundle Up Crochet sells a variety of scarves and earwarmers, but who are the people behind this handmade business? Alec and I (Maryanne) met at the University of Dayton in December 2010 and were married in Cincinnati on August 9, 2014.

Popsicles from Street Pops in Cincinnati, wedding photo by Frame805 at Glenwood Gardens in Cincinnati

    Do you both crochet?

A: Maryanne is the crocheter. I taught myself how to knit in the fall of 2014, and successfully made myself a knit hat and scarf to keep me warm all winter long!
M: I crochet all items. I tried to teach Alec how and learned I'm really not a good crochet teacher!

Is Bundle Up Crochet your full time job?

A: It is not. I work full-time at Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, OH where I am a Business Analyst in our Payments division. I basically make reports in Excel and provide other analysis to management.

M: I work full time as an Analyst at Kroger. I crochet at night after work during the week and all through the weekends. I try to work on blog posts and newsletters at lunch during the week.

    Do you have any pets?

A: We have two cats, Izzy and Neo. Izzy is a female tortie and Neo is a male black cat. They are brother and sister who we rescued in October 2014.
M: I think Izzy likes Alec more than me, and Neo likes each of us at his own time. Neo does like to sit with me more often than Alec though. I don't think I have a favorite and really enjoy having both of them around our house even when they are meowing at us for no reason.

Izzy on the left, Neo on the right

    What is your favorite drink?

A: Anything with bourbon in it. I’ll take it straight, on the rocks, in a Manhattan, with Coke, and also my dad’s favorite drink, the Billy D, a mix of lemonade and bourbon over ice.

M: Can I have multiple? Cabernet Sauvignon for wine, whiskey and coke for a mixed drink, Blue Moon for draft beer... Non-alcoholic drinks? Coffee with way too much Cold Stone Creamery Sweet Cream from International Delight.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: I could easily eat pizza for every meal for the rest of my life. The wonderful thing about pizza too is that it’s so versatile! There are so many different toppings and flavors one can make a pizza with.
M: Potatoes. They're so versatile! Baked potato, french fries (steak fries, crinkly fries, curly fries, shoestring fries...), potato chips, loaded potato skins, cubed and fried potatoes, hashbrowns, mashed potatoes... My mouth is watering.

Homemade pizza made my Alec. Don't you love the pepperoni smiley!?

Since you're starting the Big Game Series, who is your favorite football team?

A: This is a complicated question…Growing up in Chicago, I was a Chicago Bears fan. But once Mike Vick joined the league in 2001 with the Atlanta Falcons, my loyalties switched. When he was forced to leave football for a couple of years (rough time in my life) I was left teamless. Now that I live in Cincinnati, I have embraced the Cincinnati Bengals as my favorite NFL team.

M: I was hoping you wouldn't ask that. I pick based on what's on tv that day or weekend, and then choose a team based on which mascot I like better. I have a Bengals jersey and a couple of shirts, so if you saw me in Cincinnati during a weekend you might think I'm a fan!

What do you like to do for fun?

A: When I’m not taking Bundle Up photographs or managing bundleupcrochet.com, I like to run, play video games, binge watch TV series with Maryanne, sample different wines and beers, and go on adventures with Maryanne.

M: We have a pool table and darts in our basement so I love beating Alec at those two games. I also love crafting with my girlfriends and trying new restaurants and bars in the area.

Picture taken at the Lackman Bar in Cincinnati, Ohio

What is your favorite movie or tv show?

A: My favorite TV show of all time is The Office. My favorite movie is The Matrix.

M: Grease is my all time favorite movie. I have to keep it classic and say that Friends is my favorite tv show... Although our Breaking Bad binge is a very close second.

What's your favorite thing to cook?

A: My favorite cuisine to cook is Italian. Chicken marsala, lasagna, and chicken parmesan are a few of my favorites.

M: Alec is the chef in our house. I can usually make a pretty mean grilled cheese sandwich or Kraft macaroni and cheese. Are those my favorite things? Not really. They're pretty much the only things.

Alec's homemade lasagna on the left, and Maryanne's Kraft Mac & Cheese on the right

Are you a night owl or an early riser?

A: Can I choose both? I like to stay up late watching TV or playing video games, and then I like to get up early to start the day!

M: Neither. I think there should be a new category called Sleeper. I can fall asleep anywhere and pretty much at any time, and have a really hard time waking up and getting out of bed (or wherever I happen to fall asleep).

Introducing the Bundle Up Big Game Series! August 21, 2015 09:00

Before you know it our weekends will be spent tailgating, eating more chips and dip than we can keep track of, and cheering so loud that we lose our voices. Our Big Game Series will keep you excited throughout the whole season and provide another game to watch, especially if your team isn't playing that weekend!

What is the Big Game Series?

The BGS (Big Game Series) is a weekly series that will feature one college football or NFL game. The games will be played anytime from the Friday feature through the following Monday night. Alec will write about his thoughts on both teams and predict the score, while I (Maryanne) will list the colors for the teams, any cute guys to keep an eye out for, and evaluate the mascot matchup. We want YOU to show us how you're supporting your team! We all know how unpredictable the weather is so regardless if it's 70 degrees or snowing and frigid cold, we want to see how you dress to impress your favorite team. Post your pictures on social media and use the hashtag #BundleUpBGS to be featured in our recap the following week.

    Did you say recap?

Of course! Every week before the BGS featured game, we will post a short recap complete with any must see highlights. We will also include our favorite photos from YOU on social media!

How do you get your favorite team featured?

Let us know! Leave a comment, send us a note on the Contact Us page, post on social media... Use any means to tell us your favorite team and why you want them featured.

You might be thinking, "I'm not really into sports - Will I enjoy this series?"

Absolutely! This series is meant to be fun for everyone. Alec's game insights will interest those with a passion for sports, and my mascot overview aims to entertain all of our followers. You will also be able to see how different color combinations and items pair together with one another.

So when is the first BGS post?

Because we're local to Cincinnati and are way too excited to wait until the first regular season game, we are starting the BGS NEXT WEEK! Check back next Friday morning (the 28th) to read our first BGS post:

Thanks for checking out the brand new BundleUpCrochet.com! We hope you will find a beautiful handcrafted piece that will keep you warm through all of the cold weather months. For our first ever blog post, I thought I could give you a little history of how we got here.

My nana taught me to crochet when I was a child. Growing up, I handmade numerous potholders for my family. After college I struggled to find a hobby I enjoyed outside of work, and when I picked up my crochet hook I fell in love with it all over again! In the beginning, my handmade items were gifted to close friends and family members. The following year, I sold my items through word of mouth to coworkers, family, and friends. Finally in 2014, my husband encouraged me to start my own business and officially sell my handmade items. My original Etsy Shop launched in September 2014 and provided an avenue to share my craft with a broad audience. On August 1, 2015, www.BundleUpCrochet.com went live, and a new chapter in the business began, being able to sell direct to our customers.
