Frequently Asked Questions September 14, 2015 09:00

Almost halfway through September already! Time really does seem to fly by faster every month, especially when we get closer to the holiday season. With the busy shopping months just ahead of us, we are hoping to help answer some common questions we see from our customers:

What is crochet? Isn’t that the same as knitting?

"Crochet" and "knit" are often used interchangeably to describe handmade items; however, the process to create these items is actually VERY different! Although both hobbies work with yarn, you can see on the left side of the picture below that one single hook is used to crochet an item, while the right side of the picture shows two pointed needles that are used to knit an item. While both processes utilize loops of yarn, knitting requires many active loops on the needles while crocheting normally only has one active loop (or possibly a few loops depending on the stitch).

Is the wooden tag on your scarves and hats removable?

Our intention with the wooden tags was for them to remain on the items. We added them this year as a branding tool and a way for customers to remember who they bought the item from. The tag is sewn into the item and we would highly suggest not cutting it off in fear of cutting the yarn that holds the item together. You can always put the item on with the tag side down or in the back if you do not want it displayed.

Why shouldn’t I put my item through the washing machine?

The quality of the wooden button and tag will deteriorate if your item is put through the washing machine. We instead recommend hand washing your items and lying them flat to dry. Flowers pinned to any earwarmer or hat should also be removed before hand washing.

What is the process if I want to place a custom order?

Please visit our Custom/Group Order page to begin the custom order process. Let us know the type of item you’re looking for, color(s), size(s), date that you need the item, and any other special notes that would help us better understand your order.

Are there any other items I can custom order outside of a scarf and earwarmer?

Absolutely! In addition to completing requests for different colors and styles of scarves and earwarmers, we have also crocheted several different winter hats, baby blankets, baby hats, and baby booties. We are always open to discussing new items, even if we haven't previously made them! Visit our Custom/Group Order page to tell us more about what you’re looking for.

Are your items sold in stores?

Our items are currently only sold online and through Beverly’s Gift and Craft Shoppe. We are hoping to sell in stores in the future.

Do you sell at any craft shows?

Yes! We will post on social media and the blog to let you know when and where we are participating in craft shows. We currently only participate in events local to the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. We have several already confirmed for this Fall and can't wait to announce those at a later date!

Get to Know Us!
So by now you know that Bundle Up Crochet sells a variety of scarves and earwarmers, but who are the people behind this handmade business? Alec and I (Maryanne) met at the University of Dayton in December 2010 and were married in Cincinnati on August 9, 2014.

Do you both crochet?

A: Maryanne is the crocheter. I taught myself how to knit in the fall of 2014, and successfully made myself a knit hat and scarf to keep me warm all winter long!
M: I crochet all items. I tried to teach Alec how and learned I'm really not a good crochet teacher!

Is Bundle Up Crochet your full time job?

A: It is not. I work full-time at Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, OH where I am a Business Analyst in our Payments division. I basically make reports in Excel and provide other analysis to management.

M: I work full time as an Analyst at Kroger. I crochet at night after work during the week and all through the weekends. I try to work on blog posts and newsletters at lunch during the week.

Do you have any pets?

A: We have two cats, Izzy and Neo. Izzy is a female tortie and Neo is a male black cat. They are brother and sister who we rescued in October 2014.
M: I think Izzy likes Alec more than me, and Neo likes each of us at his own time. Neo does like to sit with me more often than Alec though. I don't think I have a favorite and really enjoy having both of them around our house even when they are meowing at us for no reason.

What is your favorite drink?

A: Anything with bourbon in it. I’ll take it straight, on the rocks, in a Manhattan, with Coke, and also my dad’s favorite drink, the Billy D, a mix of lemonade and bourbon over ice.

M: Can I have multiple? Cabernet Sauvignon for wine, whiskey and coke for a mixed drink, Blue Moon for draft beer... Non-alcoholic drinks? Coffee with way too much Cold Stone Creamery Sweet Cream from International Delight.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: I could easily eat pizza for every meal for the rest of my life. The wonderful thing about pizza too is that it’s so versatile! There are so many different toppings and flavors one can make a pizza with.
M: Potatoes. They're so versatile! Baked potato, french fries (steak fries, crinkly fries, curly fries, shoestring fries...), potato chips, loaded potato skins, cubed and fried potatoes, hashbrowns, mashed potatoes... My mouth is watering.

Homemade pizza made my Alec. Don't you love the pepperoni smiley!?

Since you're starting the Big Game Series, who is your favorite football team?

A: This is a complicated question…Growing up in Chicago, I was a Chicago Bears fan. But once Mike Vick joined the league in 2001 with the Atlanta Falcons, my loyalties switched. When he was forced to leave football for a couple of years (rough time in my life) I was left teamless. Now that I live in Cincinnati, I have embraced the Cincinnati Bengals as my favorite NFL team.

M: I was hoping you wouldn't ask that. I pick based on what's on tv that day or weekend, and then choose a team based on which mascot I like better. I have a Bengals jersey and a couple of shirts, so if you saw me in Cincinnati during a weekend you might think I'm a fan!

What do you like to do for fun?

A: When I’m not taking Bundle Up photographs or managing bundleupcrochet.com, I like to run, play video games, binge watch TV series with Maryanne, sample different wines and beers, and go on adventures with Maryanne.

M: We have a pool table and darts in our basement so I love beating Alec at those two games. I also love crafting with my girlfriends and trying new restaurants and bars in the area.

What is your favorite movie or tv show?

A: My favorite TV show of all time is The Office. My favorite movie is The Matrix.

M: Grease is my all time favorite movie. I have to keep it classic and say that Friends is my favorite tv show... Although our Breaking Bad binge is a very close second.

What's your favorite thing to cook?

A: My favorite cuisine to cook is Italian. Chicken marsala, lasagna, and chicken parmesan are a few of my favorites.

M: Alec is the chef in our house. I can usually make a pretty mean grilled cheese sandwich or Kraft macaroni and cheese. Are those my favorite things? Not really. They're pretty much the only things.

Are you a night owl or an early riser?

A: Can I choose both? I like to stay up late watching TV or playing video games, and then I like to get up early to start the day!

M: Neither. I think there should be a new category called Sleeper. I can fall asleep anywhere and pretty much at any time, and have a really hard time waking up and getting out of bed (or wherever I happen to fall asleep).
